9th 6 Nevernay (IRE) 3 G Poor Kevin Frost 143 lbs 28/1 0.3 In rear - awkward start and lost many lengths - soon detached - some headway home straight - no impression (inquiry held into running and riding of gelding which jumped awkwardly from stalls and lost several lengths before becoming detached through early and middle stages until staying on from an unpromising position leaving back straight to finish 9th of 11 runners - beaten 8 3/4l; vet examined gelding post-race and had nothing to report; jockey stated that his instructions were to bounce out and be prominent - which is a customary pattern of racing for gelding; however gelding was very slowly into stride and he initially allowed gelding time to balance up and find its stride; he explained that after approximately 1f he slapped gelding down neck with his whip and rode gelding along to improve his position and make ground on field but unfortunately his mount appeared sluggish and did not respond to his urgings; from this point jockey explained that he accepted his position despite being a long way behind main division of runners and allowed gelding an opportunity to fill the bridle as early pace was quick; he added that gelding eventually tacked on to backmarkers and made ground over final 3f to finish his race off well; he indicated this was only his third career ride - whilst also acknowledging that potentially having too shorter hold of gelding's head in stalls had contributed to gelding not jumping into stride quicker and thereafter he should have persevered with his efforts for longer to ensure that his mount remained more competitive in first half of race; trainer confirmed instructions and stated he was obviously disappointed with ride that gelding had received but felt this was largely down to rider inexperience after start of race had not gone as planned; he did also explain that gelding had previously raced in a disinterested fashion earlier in year for a senior rider at Wolverhampton.)(op 25/1 tchd 22/1)
10th 10 Doves Of Peace (IRE) 4 G Poor Clare Hobson 137 lbs 50/1 .5 In rear - soon detached - took keen hold and joined main group after 1f - some headway over 1f out - no impression(op 33/1)
11th 4 Drafted (IRE) 5 G AVG Patrick Morris 146 lbs 7/1 .75 Took keen hold - held up in last - soon detached - some headway from over 1f out - never near to challenge (inquiry held into running and riding of gelding which was heavily restrained leaving stalls and became detached from main division of runners until being asked for a hands and heels effort from approaching 2f out to finish last of eleven runners - beaten by 10 lengths; vet examined gelding on two occasions post-race and had nothing to report; jockey stated that her instructions were to jump from stalls and sit 3rd or 4th and ride the race as she found it from there; she explained that this was her first ride in a race under rules and it had all happened very quickly on a gelding which was dropping back 2f in trip from his previous two starts for trainer; having watched the replays - rider reported that in hindsight she could have made a greater effort to ensure gelding remained in a competitive position during first half of race but due to a solid pace and her relative inexperience in the saddle - she had misjudged aspects of the ride; trainer confirmed instructions and whilst he acknowledged that ride had not fully accorded with them - he was understanding of the situation taking into account riders inexperience - which he felt explained how rider had allowed gelding to get so far out of his ground through first 3f; trainer highlighted jockeys' effort from approaching 2f marker where gelding began to stay on before running out of racing room in closing stages.)(op 15/2)
