Took keen hold - towards rear on outer - hung right under 2f out - ridden and hung left inside final furlong - no impression (inquiry held into running and riding of gelding - which raced keenly in early stages - was held up in rear and appeared to be tenderly ridden in concluding stages to finish 6th of 9 runners - beaten 4 1/2l; jockey stated that his instructions were to settle gelding and work his way into race late to obtain best possible placing as gelding - in his previous runs - had a tendency to weaken in the finish as well as to hang when put under pressure; he stated that gelding was unsuited by the slow early pace and had raced keenly to the outside of the field and had only settled exiting back straight; he further stated that having balanced gelding up in home straight - gelding again showed a tendency to lug left-handed and in fact moved left from the one use of whip in the right-hand; he therefore continued to the finish under hands and heels ride and - in his opinion - to stay on at finish obtaining best possible placing; trainer's rep stated that he was satisfied with ride under the circumstances and that it accorded with instructions given)(op 7/1)
