Took keen hold - held up in rear - headway after 3 out - pushed along 2 out - soon hung left - carried right approaching last where 5 lengths fifth - shaken up and went third run-in - stayed on (inquiry into running and riding; jockey said he was nstructed to settle the inexperienced gelding quietly; however - the moderate pace didn't help him switch off - and he hung badly left throughout; despite this - he managed to improve his position approaching leaders; under pressure - gelding stayed on one rein - hanging persistently left; near final hurdle - Peso - placed fourth - drifted into his line - so he eased up to avoid contact; accepting third place as best possible outcome - he refrained from pushing hard in final stretch - finishing 6 lengths behind second; he felt gelding would benefit from a step up in trip - a more truely run race and a continuous running rail; vet reported gelding to be post-race normal - other than exhibiting a sore mouth with splits evident in both corners)(op 6/4 tchd 5/4 and 7/4)
