Took keen hold - held up in rear - headway before 3 out - shaken up and outpaced 2 out - ridden briefly and went fourth run-in - not pace to challenge (jockey said - regarding running and riding - that his instructions were to ride gelding behind the leaders and to get gelding jumping on what was his second run over hurdles; he reported that gelding has respiratory issues and that this is why he has worn a tongue tie on all of his racecourse experiences; his intention therefore - following two disappointing runs - was to ride gelding to finish his race - and in doing so - obtain best possible placing; he continued that gelding was racing flat out throughout and that he had begun to ask for an effort on turning in - whilst still being mindful of gelding's respiratory issues; taking both this and gelding's inexperience into account - he explained that whilst he was riding with considerable effort up home straight - he was able to be more vigorous having jumped the last - where gelding continued at same pace - passing one weakening horse in process but without gaining on any of the front three; he finished by reporting that although gelding made a respiratory noise - he was very satisfied with performance considering his two most recent runs; trainer confirmed instructions and reiterated his satisfaction with run which gave them something to build on moving forwards; their explanations were noted; jockey said gelding made a respiratory noise)(tchd 50/1)
