Ffos Las | - | 2m3½f | Adam Wedge | Evan Williams | 3rd | 5:8.10 | 26 | 98 | 11-12 | 6/1 |
Held up in rear - ridden home turn - soon well held - went modest third run-in (an inquiry was held into the running and riding; Wedge and Williams were interviewed and shown recordings of the race - the vet said that a post-race examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities - Wedge stated that his instructions were to drop the mare in and ride the race accordingly - he said that leaving the home straight the mare became unbalanced when the field in front steadied - an incident which did not help as the mare is one who needs to be kept in a good rhythm throughout - he continued that in the back straight she became outpaced and that the mare - in his opinion - would not have responded well at that stage to being ridden more vigorously and that his priority was to keep the bit in the mare's mouth and to keep her running into the bridle - he finished by stating that as he proceeded up the home straight the mare grew in confidence as she closed on Dunbar - placed fifth - and Miss M - placed fourth - who were both tiring - but he added that he was not making any ground on the front two - a point which was confirmed by the video footage - Williams stated that he was satisfied with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given - their explanations were noted)(op 11/2 tchd 5/1)
